GEDA are actively involved with both the University of Ulster and Queen’s University Belfast in recruiting placement students on a yearly basis.
To date we have employed students from the following disciplines:
As a student with GEDA you will be gaining valuable experience in a progressive company.
More specifically you will be assisting in the day-to-day running of the site, control of sub-contractors, setting out (use of E.D.M., theodolite and level), ordering materials, quality control and liaising with architects and consultants.
Current/Previous students have commented:
“My year’s placement with GEDA has been a thoroughly beneficial experience as you face so many elements of engineering, on both civil and building engineering projects. You also receive invaluable tuition from an experienced workforce, which is so different from what you learn in the classroom”
Stephen Kane, Year 3 BEng Civil Engineering, Universityof Ulster, Jordanstown
“GEDA provides students with responsibilities so that they can learn things for themselves but also provides assistance and guidance where necessary. They try to accommodate both your needs with the requirements of your course and in turn assign you to suitable jobs and locations”
John McCaughey, Year 3 BEng Civil Engineering, University of Ulster, Jordanstown
GEDA have undertaken many prestigious contracts in both the North and South of Ireland. These include three award winning luxury apartment developments Waterfoot in Newcastle, Co. Down and New Forge Lane just off Belfast’s Malone Road and large mixed residential schemes such as Torrent View in Donaghmore, Cathedral Walk in Monaghan and a new 106 house venture Coill Darach in Castleblayney to name but a few. As a placement student you will be gaining valuable experience working on projects such as these.
Current/Previous students have commented:
“During my placement year with Geda Construction I have gained a wealth of experience in levelling and setting-out, as well as organising labour, plant and materials. The added responsibility and new challenges required to fulfil the role of site supervisor as well as site engineer on a commercial project meant that I increased my knowledge of various construction operations. Help and advice is always on hand from the senior personnel within GEDA when needed and this will be of great assistance to me in my final year studies”
Kieran Donnelly, Year 3 BEng Construction Engineering, University of Ulster, Jordanstown
“Working with Geda Construction is an extremely worthwhile experience in the development of an undergraduate building or civil engineer. The strong and knowledgeable management team provide an environment in which a student can learn. Students are very well treated with strong opportunities to learn thoroughly a variety of construction, engineering and personal management skills that will stand by a student in their final year studies and indeed as a post graduate”
Christopher Stinson, BEng Construction Engineering and Management (Graduate), University of Ulster
Current GEDA employee
As a placement student you will be assisting on major building and civil engineering projects. More specifically you will be involved with assisting in preparation of tenders, preparing payments for subcontractors, taking off quantities for various small-medium scale projects, on site measurements and evaluations, preparation of small bills of quantities and sub-contractor packages, purchasing duties and materials orders.

“Doing my placement year with Geda Construction has given me a much better insight into the role of the Quantity Surveyor. Working on various housing, commercial and civil engineering jobs has made me more familiar with the different aspects of construction that the Q.S. must deal with. Through working with GEDA I believe that I am now a lot more prepared for my final year at university”
Anthony Kelly, Year 3 BSc Quantity Surveying
