Launch of the first Construction Supply Chain Club

Envirowise has partnered with award-winning contractor GEDA Construction to launch the first Construction Supply Chain Club in Northern Ireland.

As host, GEDA has invited key members of its supply chain to seminars on waste minimisation and resource efficiency. Both subcontractors and suppliers from the civil engineering and house-building divisions of the company will also be invited.

Endorsed by the Construction Employers Federation (CEF) in Northern Ireland, the club aims to raise awareness of waste throughout the supply chain, increase knowledge of waste legislation issues and provide an insight into the Site Waste Management Planning process. Through waste reduction, members will experience benefits that include:

·            Reduced costs for purchasing raw materials, transport & waste disposal

·            Improved environmental performance

·            Minimising disruption to local residents (through lorry movements)

·            Evidence of continuous improvement in sustainable construction (increasingly demanded by potential clients)

Eugene McKenna, Partner, GEDA, said: "Involvement in the club provides us with an opportunity to communicate more effectively with our sub-contractors and suppliers on environmental issues, and to examine the waste and resource issues at two of our active sites in detail. We hope to gain a greater understanding of the financial and environmental costs of Site Waste Management Planning and work to achieve the best possible standards."

A new Envirowise guide 'An Introduction to Site Waste Management Plans' (GG642), which gives guidance on resource efficiency and site waste management planning is also available to download.
