Geda employee, Paul Doherty, travels to the States

02 June 2010

Geda employee, Paul Doherty, was chosen to present his published paper at the “Sixth International Conference on Structures in Fire" at Michigan State University

Paul was one of the lucky chosen to attend the international conference which was held on 2-4 June 2010 and which brought together academicians, researchers and practitioners to a forum to present and discuss the latest international developments in structural fire engineering. The structural fire safety is one of the key considerations in the design of built infrastructure; Michigan State University saw the most up-to-date fire safety measures proposed for steel, timber and concrete construction respectively. With Paul’s focus on concrete performance under elevated temperatures, he was grateful to get the opportunity to present his subsequent findings in front of such a knowledgeable audience.  Paul, along with Prof F. Ali and A. Nadjai, researched and wrote a paper entitled “Explosive Spalling of Concrete Columns with Steel and Polypropylene Fibres Subjected to Severe Fire” which was published in the Conference Proceedings and will be published in the Journal of Structural Fire Safety later in the year.
