| Brief Description: | Construction of a new conventional Activated Sludge plant on the site of an existing works while ensuring continuity of treatment through phasing of the construction works. |
| The civil works also included a new inlet works, CSO, Storm Tank, a two lane process tank, two secondary clarifiers, sludge tanks, control building with associated pipelines and site works. | |
| Included in this contract was the installation of some 6km of pumping mains and gravity sewers. Where possible trenchless techniques were employed with directional drilling being used to install most of the rising mains while pipe bursting was used to lay some of the gravity sewers. This reduced traffic disruption and overpumping costs. Trenchless techniques were not always an option as a portion of the gravity sewer was laid through rock up to 4m in depth using heavy rock breaking machinery. | |
| To ensure proper phasing and programming of the works it was necessary to maintain a good working relationship with the local roads authority and the local residents. This enabled the production and implementation of traffic management plans ensuring smooth progression of the works. | |
| The whole contract was completed on time to a tight programme with the works now in operation producing a good standard of effluent. |
