Against multi-national competition from Ford Motor Company, Toyota, Boots and HM Revenue & Customs at an exclusive London ceremony, GEDA were awarded the BITC National Example of Excellence ‘Highly Commended’ accolade in Eco-efficiency in July 2007. In the presence of HRH Prince of Wales and US Vice President Al Gore, GEDA came a close second to Lafarge Cement – an exceptional achievement for a relatively small construction company being recognised for their environmental efforts.
Belfast Telegraph Property Awards Residential Developer of the Year Award 2006/07
In November 06 GEDA received the inaugural Belfast Telegraph Property Awards Residential Developer of the Year Award 2006/07. In what was deemed a highly successful year for Geda, the new eco-village Coill Darach in Castleblayney was singled out for special merit. Hosting the Awards, Mr Noel Thompson from BBC Newsline stated, “The winner pressed all the right buttons for the judges with a significant focus on the environment, a clear commitment to quality construction and corporate social responsibility. In fact, they look set to redefine the standard for energy efficient homes”.
Geda were awarded the CEF Construction Excellence Award in the new Environmental/ Sustainability category in October 2006 for the environmental features adopted in their new Head Office premises. Highlighted for special praise were the use of an air to water heat exchanger, solar panels, water harvesting and the first use in Northern Ireland of earth pipe ventilation. The judges also commented, “In its new office building, Geda has provided a blueprint for the future of modern commercial building by embracing sustainable technologies”.
GEDA were awarded the prestigious Business in the Community Environmental Improvement Award in June 2006 for the company’s overall commitment to environmental good practice and sustainability. The judges were most impressed with Geda’s ability to “practice what they preach” with the high environmental specification of the new Head Office building and the 106 house eco-village in Castleblayney gaining particular praise.
Geda Construction won joint first in the residential Catagory of this award Sept 2003 for the apartment development New Forge House in Belfast. The judges were very impressed with the quaility of the design and the build of this development and commented ".... New Forge House is a block of apartments that when constructed changed the objections of the neighbours to praise.... Workmanship of an extremely high standard has complemented the meticulous detailing of the building and grounds. "
Ceequel is an assessment and awards scheme for rewarding high environmental quality for civil engineering projects. In 2003 the highest scoring project was Greyabby and Kircubbin W.w.T.W. achieving the excellence category award with a final score of 91.6%.
